A toast to the winners

So many bourbons, so little time. The San Francisco World Spirits Competition was held last month. In its 11 year, the competition is for the full range of spirits. From gin and rum, vodka, bourbon, rye and tequela products.

Of course, we’re only interested in the bourbons.

One of my favorites won a Double Gold Medal. The 1792 Ridgemont Reserve is a fine bourbon. I’ve found it to be smooth with hints of apple in aroma and taste. 1792 came out tops in the Straight Bourbon division.

The Early Times 354 in the same division received a Gold award. It was released earlier this year. I wrote about it a while back in early February.

Over the weekend, I sipped on some Blantons. I am not seeing it in the list. It was a very pleasing product with hints of cherry and vanilla that finished with a little spice. Very nice indeed.

Take a look at the bourbon awards and see where your favorite stacks up. If you branch out from your faithful spirit, let me know what you tried and what you thought of it.

I have underlined bourbons that are not Kentucky natives. I continue to be interested in the bourbons that are being produced outside the Bluegrass state.

You’ll see some bourbons from Texas, Iowa, Virginia and New York.
