The Old Pogue Distillery produces their Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey in Bardstown, but if their efforts succeed, they may be producing a small-batch product at their original location in Maysville.
According to The Ledger Independent in Maysville, the folks at Old Pogue will be asking the Maysville Board of Adjustments on Monday for a conditional use permit to produce bourbon at the Ryan-Pogue House.
Maysville was once part of Bourbon County and originally called Limestone Station.
The historic home is across the street from the original distillery in Limestone Station – the original name of Maysville. This area was once part of the original Bourbon County. The Old Pogue Distillery bought the home back in October, 2009.
According to information on the distillery’s Web site, their whiskey was produced in Mayesville until the 1950s.
The local approval is only the first step in the process of starting operations in Maysville. The distillery has to have federal approval to produce distilled spirit. If that passes, they will then be going to the Kentucky Department of Revnue and Departmet of Alcoholic Beverages for additional permits.
According to the story in the Ledger Independent, this could take a year.
Bourbon production is expanding throughout Kentucky. There are newer distilling operations in Western and Southern Kentucky.

A fine Bourbon from a fine family with a lot of tradition. This would be a boost to Maysville and continue the Bourbon Trail to that portion of the Commonwealth, I sure hope they are successful with this venture.
