We all know — or everyone should know — the official drink of the Kentucky Derby is the Mint Julep. It’s not too difficult to concoct. A little bourbon, some mint, simple syrup. If you want to cut some corners, just drink the bourbon.
For the Preakness, you’ll have to do a little more work to create The Black-Eyed Susan. The Kentucky Derby has roses, the Preakness has Black-Eyed Susans.
There is not much corner cutting. The folks at Brown-Forman are touting their official cocktail of the Preakness.
Here is the recipe they sent along:
The Black-Eyed Susan
Official Cocktail of the Preakness
The Preakness Stakes is held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland and marks the second leg of the Triple Crown. The Black-Eyed Susan serves as the Official Drink of the Preakness and Early Times Kentucky Whisky is a key ingredient to this signature cocktail.
1 ¼ ounces Early Times Kentucky Whisky
¾ ounces vodka
3 ounces sweet and sour mix
2 ounces orange juice
Garnish with an orange slice and cherry.
Enjoy responsibly. Which horse are you going with?
